Ananda Bhavan, Syed Alwi Road, Singapore

Todays Adda : Ananda Bhavan, Syed Alwi Road, Singapore. We were super hungry. I have heard a lot about Ananda Bhawan from foodies here. They said a lot of good things and few bad things too. I was so excited to try the food there.

Food : The Ananda Bhavan is one of the oldest vegeterain Restaurent Established in 1924. They serve a splendid selection of North India, South Indian and Indian Chinese Cuisines. We were confused what to eat and what not to. Finally We Ordered Masala Dosa, Pav Bhaji and Onion Uttapam. Masala Dosa was a hit. The Dosa was Huge, Fresh, and Crispy. It was served with tomato chutney, Cocunut Chutney and Sambhar. Sambhar was a bit disappointing. It was bit thick.  Uttapam has some serious problem in Singapore. They make it very thick. It is thick like a pizza base. My search for a good Uttapan continues. Pav Bhaji was the best. The Bhaji was perfectly cooked. The paav were very soft and fresh.

Ambience: I am totally disappointed with the place. Though it is very big, but very crowded all the time. The food is Yummy and Very affordable. I think that makes it very busy all the time. One thing that I hated about it was the cleaner. He will keep on moving around continously all the time with his big cleaning bucket which smells and make you feel gross. They have a open kitchen that makes the place so hot.

Service: The Service was very fast and quick. The food was hot when it came to our table. I was impressed.

My Order:

Masala Dosa With Sambhar and Chutneys

Pav Bhaji

Uttapam

Thali (didnt order, only photo )

Anjappar Authentic Chettinaad Restaurant

Yesterday we went for lunch at Anjappar Chettinaad Restaurant at Jurong Point, Singapore. I was expecting the food to be typical South Indian style. But My expectation turned out to be wrong.

Food: The food was too good. Their menu is very huge. They serve from Tandoori's to Dosa to Biryani to soups......almost everything. They serve Soups like Sweet corn Soup(veg/chicken), clear soup(veg/chicken), Hot and sour soup and also Tomato and mushroom soup. They have their specialities too named Chettinaad Aattu Nenjelumbu Soup, Chettinaad Koli Rasam and Chettinaad Nandu Rasam.

They got  huge variety of food- starters include- chicken lolly pop, fish finger, fish cutlet,Prawn 65,Kaadal 65, Paneer65.etc etc, Main course include Crab curries, Prawn curries, Lots of varieties of chickens and Lamb. Vegeterians curries include Paneer butter masala, aloo gobi masala, bindi fry, Dal butter fry and many more.

They have a huge variety of Dosa's and tandoori's too.

Ambience - The place was a bit small and crowded but that is expected of restaurant on Weekends. In evenings, There is a waiting list of guests. So it is advisable to be there before time on weekends for lunch or dinners.

Service: The service was excellent. The food was on our table early than we expected.

My Order: Hot and Sour Soup, Veg biryani, chicken Dum Biryani, and Paneer 65, Chicken Lollypop and a can of chilled Pepsi.

Hot and sour Soup (3.50 S$)

Veg Biryani (7.50 S$)

Curry with Biryani

Paneer 65 (8.60 S$)

Chicken Dum Biryani and Raita (9.20 S$)

Chicken Lollypop (7.40 S$)

The food was yummy. The soup was very tasty and spicy and sour...perfect in taste...it was not too spicy nor too sour... I'll say it was perfectly made.

Veg and chicken Biryani came with Raita and Curry. The Biryani Rice was full of Flavour. Spices were nicely blended with rice. The quality of Rice used was also good. The curry was very spicy and tasted too good. But Didnt like the raita. There was too much Onion in Raita and also the pieces were quite big. The Paneer 65 was also good. My hubby liked the chicken lollypop too. He said chicken was soft and perfectly cooked.

My Rating: 3.5/5

Happy Pepero Day !!!!

Today is Pepero Day in South Korea (November 11th). Pepero is a candy which is long, thin cookie biscuit stick dipped in Chocolate). November 11th is Pepero Day because it’s 11/11, which looks like fur Pepero sticks. It is like Valentines Day.

The Lotte Confectionary Company introduced Pepero to Korea back in the 1980s. Many people believe that the company invented this day to increase their sales. It sells almost two-thirds of it’s yearly total of these snacks in the two months before November 11th (Source: Lina Yoon Wall Street Journal 2006). What a marketing Strategy !!!!
To celebrate Pepero Day, people exchange boxes of Pepero that come in many different flavours and packages too.

Happy Pepero Day 11-11-11 ( 11 Nov 2011)

Love for food - Chakh Le India !!!!

I never Knew I loved and missed Indian food so much Until I went to South Korea. There were Few Indian Restaurent in South Korea. I always missed Cholle bhature, dosa, chowmein, shahi paneer, butter paneer, samose, All chats, Pani puri and all yummy Indian curries, dishes, soups and dessert which we eat when we go to Restaurant.

I decided to start a group on facebook which will give people taste of India through Pics. Initially It was just for fun, but slowly I got addicted to it and here we are now on Blogger .....

I'll keep posting Photos of food from restaurant in Singapore. I moved to Singapore in Aug 2011. I'll try to rate the food too. I have decided to rate the food of restaurant on four parameters: taste, Ambience, value for money, service. ( taken from a show on NDTV ).

I'm not a good writer but still I'll try to keep my posts creative.

Swaad Restaurant, Lil.India, Singapore

Today's Adda: Swaad Restaurant, Lil. India, Singapore

It is the first Indian Restaurant we visited in Singapore. We were craving good Chat and samosas. We read good reviews for this restaurant. We went there in evening for snacks so we ate chat,Samosas and of course Garma Garam Chai.

Our Order : Pani Puri, Samosas, Bhel Puri, and Paav Bhaji.

Pani Puri was good. I ate it almost after 8 months. It was not as spicy as we get in India but still worth eating. the Pani was spicy and tangy.

Bhel puri was ok. It was not so spicy.  Paav Bhaji was also yummy and spicy. The Bhaji tasted very good. The vegetable and Tomatoes were blended well. The Paav were a bit disappointing. They gave us Burger bread as Paav. :P

Samosas were best of all. The outer crusty was very crispy. The inner masala was of potato, very hot and spicy, well cooked and full of flavours. It was served with a mixture of tamarind and mint chutney.

Ambience: The Restaurant was a bit small but was very neat and clean. They decorated the interiors with good pictures and handicraft from India.

Service: The service was super quick. The food was on our table within minutes. Thank you for taking good care of us as we were very hungry and wanted to attack food as soon as we could.

Our Order:

Pani Puri
